If you don’t do the work off the court, you won’t be able to do work on the court.

Academic Eligibility .

If you want to be an NCAA Division I or II athlete then you need to focus on your academic eligibility the minute you step foot into high school freshman year. If you start taking your academics seriously then you will ensure you are on track to complete all the required core classes on time and maintain the proper grade point average (GPA) in order to play at the next level. Several players don’t take this seriously until it’s too late and this hurts their chance at playing at the schools they want to.

Becoming NCAA Eligible.

Core Course Requirement.

Talk to your guidance counselor and ASK FOR HELP to ensure you are meeting the core course requirement. You need to complete 10 of these courses by your Junior Year and pass 16 by the time you can become eligible.

NCAA Sliding Scale.

When the NCAA is determining your eligibility they will use a combination of your GPA, SAT or ACT scores in determining your eligibility. Therefore, if you have a lower GPA you can still be eligible if you meet the SAT/ACT requirements shown on the sliding scale.

Core Course GPA.

In order to be eligible, you need a CORE COURSE GPA of 2.3 out 4.0. For Division II, the minimum is a 2.0.

NCAA Certification Account.

It order to be recruited by the NCAA DI or DII schools you’ll need to create an NCAA Certification account. This is what the NCAA will use to assess your NCAA Eligibility.

ACT/SAT.

The minimum ACT score for DI NCAA eligibility is a 75 sum score. The minimum for the SAT is a 900. For DII NCAA eligibility. The minimum ACT score is a 70 and the minimum SAT score is an 840. The NCAA defines the sum score as the combined scores of the four core sections: English, mathematics, reading and science. You can take the ACT multiple times and use your best score in each category to create a “super” sum score.

SET GOALS.

There is a lot to take in when trying to be academically successful while also living out to expectations on the court. Set academic goals for yourself the same way you set athletic goals and see them as one thing. Being a student is one of the ket skills in being an athlete, if you aren’t a good student then you can’t look at yourself as a good athlete.
